Name: Gareth Edward Jones (I rarely use my middle name but have to distinguish myself from the rest of the Gareth Jones in the world)

Where I live: Dorset, United Kingdom

What I do: A graduate in Environmental Sciences and I’m now studying Development and Environmental studies at a post-graduate level.

By day I work as an Analyst at University of Southampton. I love my work place, and find it stimulating being surrounded by the latest scientific discoveries.

At work I am chairing a group to lead environmental improvements and in previous positions have implemented waste recycling schemes.

I’m a passionate activist, driven by science and my annoyance of those that degrade the planet.

As a frequent UK music festival goer, my alter-ego is the Green Festival Man. I have previously started small campaigns to encourage short bouts of environmental vegetarianism and encourage people to enjoy festivals with more consideration.

What inspires me: The fantastic planet we live on and people with passion and a lust for life.

What I’ll be talking about on GGG: Inspired by the words of Gandhi, I deeply believe we have to be the change we want to see in the world. Action motivates me more than statement. Whether lobbying my local Member of Parliament, undertaking crazy fundraising challenges for WaterAid (like surviving in the Arctic) or reducing my environmental impact on this great planet, I’m trying to change the world, and encourage those around me to do the same.

As I continue my quest for improvement I’ll be sharing my personal stories, scientific developments and eco discoveries.

What I want for the future: Lower impact living in harmony with the environment, for consumers to take back control and in the infamous words of Bill Hicks “Take all that money that we spend on weapons and defences each year and instead, spend it feeding and clothing and educating the poor of the world, which it would many times over, not one human being excluded, and then we could explore space, together, both inner and outer, forever, in peace.”
